Jenkins Model Based Ferrofluid Lubrication of a Curved Rough Annular Squeeze Film: Effect of Slip Velocity

Abstra t. This paper analyzes the ombined e e t of slip velo ity and transverse roughness on the performan e of a Jenkins model based ferro uid lubriation of a squeeze lm in urved rough annular plates. The slip model of Beavers and Joseph has been invoked to evaluate the e e t of slip velo ity. In order to nd the e e t of surfa e roughness the sto hasti averaging model of Christensen and Tonder has been used. The pressure distribution is obtained by solving the on erned sto hasti ally averaged Reynolds type equation. The load arrying apa ity is al ulated. The graphi al representations of the results indi ate that the e e t of transverse surfa e roughness is adverse in general, however, the situation is relatively better in the ase of negatively skewed roughness. Further, Jenkins model based ferro uid lubri ation o ers some measures in redu ing the adverse e e t of roughness when slip parameter is kept at redu ed level with a suitable ratio of urvature parameters. Lastly, the positive e e t of magnetization gets a boost due to the ombined e e t of varian e (-ve) and negatively skewed roughness suitably hoosing the aspe t ratio.
